Cardiff University work in close partnership with Victim Support's Hate Crime Team and were awarded their trust mark on 27 July 2021 as a symbol of Cardiff University’s commitment to Victim Support’s Hate Crime Charter. This Charter sets out best practice for organisations when working with victims / survivors of hate crime, keeping their rights at the forefront of support.

The Trustmark was awarded as Victim Support recognised that Cardiff University has extensive support services available to students who experience hate crime and that the values of these services align with the Hate Crime Charter, including:

  • the right to be heard
  • the right to be treated with respect
  • the right to information around hate crime, accessing support and how hate crime can be reported (if this is wanted).

Victim Support also recognised that Cardiff University organised and co-facilitated hate crime awareness training sessions for staff across different departments, increasing staff members knowledge around the identification of hate crime and the support that is available to students or staff who experience hate crime.

This Trustmark highlights Cardiff University's ongoing commitment to tackling and raising awareness of hate crime.
